VirtualBoot

Over the past few months, we have been undergoing testing on a virtualisation product from Oracle called VirtualBoot. Oracle VirtualBoot is an open-source virtualisation system that allows you to virtualise your workstations and devices at no cost.

We chose Oracle VirtualBoot as it is the chosen virtualisation platform by StorageCraft to be the business continuity product for their backup software, ShadowProtect.

Oracle VirtualBoot has so many great features, so we’ve listed a few here:

With Oracle VirtualBoot, we can right click on a backup image on one of our storage servers and select ‘VirtualBoot To This Point In Time.’ ShadowProtect and VirtualBoot then take over and finalise your backup, creating a new virtual machine and start that machine at the point in time that we have selected. It is here that the vCloud Network-As-A-Service system can give you access to up to 10 concurrent connections to your server running in our virtual environment.

Oracle VirtualBoot really is the best plugin for StorageCraft ShadowProtect by far, giving you the ability to have business continuity at a fraction of the price.
